DMCI Homes is looking for a TRAINING CONSULTANT that will handle management trainees under its Management Development Program (MDP). As part of the company’s succession planning, the MDP is composed of on-boarding, technical, behavioral, and on-the-job trainings.

Functions:
* Ensures the motivation and engagement, and monitors learning and performance of management trainees who are top graduates of top universities and are being groomed for leadership positions.
* Coordinates with internal and external mentors and trainers.
* Markets the MDP to top management for internal buy-in and to top universities to stimulate interest of candidates for graduation and alumni.
* Creates MDP materials (mainly training modules and handouts)
* Conducts management and behavioral trainings to equip Management Trainees with effective work-life habits and skills.
* Provides regular updates to management.

Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s degree in human resources, psychology or business related course. Masters degree/units are a plus.
* With at least 3 years experience in training (can perform all facets of the training cycle and with excellent platform skills) and talent management.
* With strong leadership skills (achievement orientation, communications, creativity)
* Can work with minimum supervision.
* Willing to work on project basis.
* 35-40 years old.

This: My 54 (and counting...) management trainees

I am now co-responsible for the futures of 54 management trainees under DMCI Homes' Management Development Program (MDP). The MDP is implemented by the HR Department in coordination with the company's Design and Construction Department, Property Management arm, and  Project Development Department. As Training Manager-Consultant, I act as program manager, which requires me to conceptualize, oversee and continually improve MDP implementation.

With much care, thorough preparation and heart-stopping anticipation, we started in January 2010 with 15 management trainees (MTs) for the Design and Construction Department. Six months later, in August 2010, we opened the Property Management Program to 11 MTs.

In July 2012, simultaneously, 20 MTs started as Batch 2 of the Design and Construction track and 8 MTs came in as Batch 2 of the Property Management Track. Just the logistics organizing - training rooms, speakers, supplies and materials, schedules, among others - was very challenging and very educational as well.

Last week, November 5, 2012, two MTs were welcomed as the pioneer MTs of the Project Development Track.

Of the 56 MTs, two have exited the program on well reasoned grounds.

Coming from the best schools in the Philippines, these MTs are intellectually brilliant, technology savvy, dynamic, idealistic and ooze potential for future success. In dealing with them, as well as with the other stakeholders of the program, I have learned additional lessons in leadership, inter-generational management, flexibility and humility. I am required to report to the office 18 hours per week, which I subdivide to three 6-hour workdays weekly. It is a learning process - I always learn something new along the way. I am contemplating writing case studies that will add to the body of knowledge on management development programs.

In May 2013, five MTs will be recruited to form Batch 3 of the Property Development track (2-year program) and five MTs as Batch 2 of the Project Development Track (2-year program). In June 2013, five MTs will be recruited for Batch 3 of the Design and Construction Track (3.5-year program). Watch out!

Company growth - in terms of sales and projects - requires solid leadership and personnel readiness. With this perspective, DMCI Homes started implementing in October 2010 a Management Development Program (MDP), which is a succession strategy.

The MDP has two tracks: engineering (Track 1) and property management (Track 2). A third track - project development - will be introduced very soon. The two tracks already have two batches: 14 management trainees for Track 1 and 11 management trainees for Track 2. 

Capitalizing on the stability and success of Batch 1, DMCI Homes recruited Batch 2 aspirants. After a rigorous process, 20 management trainees in Track 1 Batch 2 and eight in Track 2 Batch 2 started in the MDP yesterday. Eight of them are from UP Diliman; 6 from UST; three from TIP; two each from Mapua, University of Makati and TUP; and one each from St. Louis University, Letran, PLM, De La Salle University and St. Paul University Manila. Being groomed to become future leaders of the company, they will undergo technical and behavioral training, interdepartment rotations, coaching sessions and site deployment. Track 1 is a 3.5-year course while Track 2 is a 2-year course.

I now handle 53 Management Trainees, with 10 more to be added when the newly minted Project Development Track opens. As Consultant, my responsibilities include training, strategic planning, budgeting, program management, curriculum development, recruitment, talent management and training academy management.

The MDP undergoes constant evolution as lessons are learned along the way. Its dynamism is one of its success factors. The other such factors include solid support from the company's management (the company President treats it as a pet project), adequate budget (Php26 M excluding salaries for this year alone), curriculum structure (developed by the company's pillars who have - to borrow a tired cliche - been there done that), thorough monitoring (which is what I do, in coordination with buddies and other partners), experiential coaching given by seasoned company officials, and the malleability of young minds, among others.

I love the MDP because I am its active parent. I treat my Management Trainees as children whose bright futures I am obliged to ensure. This is a commitment.
